I'm the principal of Ashdale Primary School, it's a large school located north of Perth. It has 880 students, about half of our population coming from outside of Australia. [The sun shines on the leafy grounds and low school buildings. But they've come back and they've worked closely with individual teachers. My role would be to free those teachers up so they can actually work with our experts. We are now building a team of experts, so we're inside of our collaborative teams as well. So they have one or two people that can actually help across the board. [Uniformed students traipse between school buildings. Tony Watson is interviewed in the library.] TONY WATSON: I have a great belief that for a program to work in a school or a process or an approach, it requires a principal's support. I support it through professional learning for our teams. And I provide moral support because sometimes it's a pretty demanding space as well. And I certainly have identified the identification of a strong person and a knowledgeable and a professional person to take the role on. So my role as a principal is to make sure that’s seamless. My teachers sleep at night, they feel really reassured that they are meeting the needs of these kids. [The NCCD logo appears onscreen.
