(gentle upbeat music) Our students at secondary are usually well in control of what is happening with their learning. They contribute how they're going in their classes, the things that are not going so well, the things they're struggling with. It might be a particular subject that they're finding difficult. And that's where we can go back to that teacher, or give them some well-being support, or some social skills support, to make sure that they are progressing the way that we'd like them to. They generally understand that they need additional support. And I often have students come to me and say, hey I'm finding my learning really difficult and I actually have been doing some reading about dyslexia and I think I might have dyslexia. How do I get extra help? Because I do see in classrooms, especially you on through to perhaps 11, where other students are getting assistance. And if they're finding the content hard then they are looking and going, well how do I get that? How do I get that additional support? So that's where we can have that conversation with students. Say well, yes we can do some adjustments. We will do some screening and find out, get a bit more information about what's happening with your learning and find out how to teach you best. (gentle music) Most of our students are involved in the creation of a personal learning plan. So they might say to me, we really like when we can use audiobooks. I learn best when I can block out the rest of the class with headphones. I learn best when I can use speech to text technology. And so we're writing that information into personal learning plans to allow them to have that opportunity. Some of our students with anxiety or depression, we have a sensory room and two well-being rooms set up. So that allows us to give students a break when they need it from their classes. And often that is part of the evidence that they are taking responsibility for, that they are saying, I need to work in the calm space today and this is part of my plan.
