[Sandra and Frank meet with Jane and her mother.] NARRATOR: Sandra informs the meeting with Jane, her mother and Frank that a suitable work experience placement has been found with an accountancy company across town. Jane will be performing office management duties. Sandra and Frank want to make sure that Jane will be able to perform these duties from the start and discuss a work preparation program with Jane and her mother. FRANK: So to help you get ready for the sort of work you'll be doing in the office, would you like to come... do you want to come work in my office until you're ready? JANE: Yes, I'd like that. MOTHER: Jane would like to meet some of the people she'll be working with. SANDRA: Jane will probably need to know where the building facilities are, where to get lunch, that sort of thing. FRANK: I'll include a tour as part of her work preparation. And if it's OK, I'll also take the opportunity to discuss Jane's strategies for managing her own stress levels. MOTHER: Oh, of course. SANDRA: Are there any other things we need to consider? MOTHER: There's one thing. Her father and I both work full-time and Jane's going to be working the other side of town. How can we manage that? SANDRA: Well, we don't provide transportation for students to get to work placement. They usually catch public transport. Jane may be eligible for local community transport assistance, but it would be more useful if we did travel training to give Jane the skills to travel. FRANK: I agree with travel training. Two thoughts, Jane - to start off, we'll have a teachers assistant go with you until you're ready to catch a bus by yourself. And secondly, make sure you have your mobile phone on you. That way you can call us if you need help. MOTHER: We do need to make sure that Jane can manage it all before she starts. FRANK: Yeah, I agree. Maybe Jane can work some short hours before she officially starts the program. Leave it with me to create a program to help Jane get ready for her work experience. [Jane works with Frank, then works in an office. A woman and Jane walk near a bus. Jane uses a mobile phone.] NARRATOR: The school has provided support to allow Jane to participate in the work experience program. It is agreed that Jane will do her work placement with the accountancy company. She will have a gradually phased-out one-on-one work preparation program, a pre-placement meeting with the staff of the company, transport support at the beginning and a mobile phone for emergencies.
