[bright music] [Aisha Elkurdi] I want to know that my child is achieving her learning goals at school, that she's being provided with the support services to help develop her education, and I want to know that she is being supported in building and maintaining her relationships with her peers and teachers at the school. We'd like parents to know that as teachers we make adjustments in various areas. We make adjustments in the planning, we make adjustments in the teaching, in the resources that we provide for the students, we make adjustments in the assessments that we have for the kids, and also the environment. To provide support for a hearing-impaired child we have the following in place. We have support group meetings which consist of the parents, the teacher, the allied health professional, our resident speech pathologist. The school helps my child to learn by providing teachers with an FM system called a Roger that they wear around their necks on a lanyard. This device allows my child to hear instructions direct to her hearing aid to help reduce the background noise in the classroom. She's also placed at the front of the classroom where she is able to lip read if necessary. We might also have a secret sign between the teacher and the student, so for example if the student feels like they didn't hear the teacher properly, she might do a sign, you know, they have their own secret code so the teacher can pick up that I need to repeat that question. So my child also receives one-to-one speech therapy at school. This happens once a week and usually the speech therapist would work with her on tasks that she found difficult in class. The school tells me about my child's learning by allowing me the opportunity to meet with teachers both informally and formally. If there's any concerns that I have with my child's learning then I would also contact the teacher either through ClassDojo or through the class diary.Knowing what she gets on to throughout the day and knowing about the concepts that she learns at school I will be able to better support her at home. Going over any new knowledge that she has learnt and being able to work on these concepts will allow me to help her to cement this knowledge.
