[bright music] - Welcome to Briar Road Public School. We're a proud and diverse public school in South Western Sydney, about a 120 Aboriginal students, who range from all different countries, here learning each and every day. From the lands of the Dharawal people where the Georges River meets the ocean. So communicating with our Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander families, it's critical for student engagement and community engagement across our school. One of the ways that we really draw on to do that is by using culturally sensitive and inclusive practises in the way that we communicate. We have a preference for an informal communication style with our families where we're on personal, first name basis. We are of the belief that, without a relationship, we're not gonna have any success. And so we put ourselves right in the middle of that relationship, and ensure that there's open lines of communication and that we're respectful and trusting of one another, and see parents as a critical part of education and a critical part of the planning for NCCD. - If there's any concerns, they always call or just come and get you when you're dropping the kids off or picking them up. We get to know what's going on at the school. It's just good to have a relaxed environment to have a chat to the teachers that you don't usually get to talk to.
