[upbeat music] - The school makes you welcome from the time you step on the school grounds, you go to the office, they're so welcoming there. They're there for the child. And they've to help you, help your child. I get notification by the school about my child's learning through emails. A teacher phoning me. So one good thing that the school does, it's called good news mile. Are saved some in just before the school holidays, and to say that my son had done exciting work and in Maths, and it gave him encouragement to try harder and I just think it's fantastic that you know, a school does that. - Families feel comfortable to talk to me because [talks] really strong at building relationships, these relationships are at the core. So having those really positive relationships with their parents, ensures that we can have those conversations and it is comfortable. - I think it's most important that we need to know whether the child has a good da or not as school, because that reflects in his schoolwork. It's adjusted to his needs, so he has a special learning just for him, compared to the other children, and it's just suited basically for him. And he works to that. And if he doesn't understand, then he's at the opportunity to ask and a teacher can just focus on that area for him. - Sharing NCCD information with them, it's just really talking about the adjustments that I might be making for their child in the classroom and what that looks like. And also just gaining I suppose they're important things that they might know that works for their children as well. I think it's really important that our parents have an input in their child's education. We have PLP meetings with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, at the beginning of the year, and then there's constant communication throughout the year about where their child's progress is at and we talk about where we think that they can go and what some realistic goals that we can set. We also talk to the student and ask them some of the things that they would like to achieve in their learning. - Yeah, always work with the school to create goals for him, just things that I think that he should be working on more. We always sit down and do his personal learning and it's very good like that. [upbeat music]
