Claremont College: Whole-school approach
In this Illustration, the Principal, Doug Thomas, provides an outline of how the school has integrated the NCCD into developing a whole-of-school approach to support all students.
Data is collected across all school years to inform teaching and identify the level of support needed for each student. Staff discuss the benefits of using data to direct their teaching and learning.
Claremont College engaged a special education consultant from the Association of Independent Schools of NSW to deliver professional learning on how to document the adjustments it was making for each student. The consultant identified that teaching staff were already making adjustments as a natural part of their everyday teaching practice.
Support was provided to assist teachers to document these adjustments and make them explicit in the class program.
Claremont College is an Independent co-educational primary school in the eastern suburbs of Sydney with approximately 360 students from Foundation to Year 6. The school employs approximately 25 full-time and part-time teachers, supported by teachers’ aides and ancillary staff.
