NCCD for school leaders e-learn
Course overview
Welcome to this course for principals, deputy principals, assistant principals, aspiring principals and other school leaders. The course is designed to help you understand your roles and responsibilities in supporting the implementation of the NCCD, ensuring that the strengths of all learners are recognised and their support needs are adequately met.
The course will focus on whole-school implementation of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) and is suitable for both beginning and experienced school leaders.
The term ‘school leader’ will be used to designate these roles.
For consistency, the term ‘families’ will predominantly be used to represent parents, guardians, carers and associates.
The three modules will follow the NCCD model that involves the four phases of Planning, Implementation, Validation and Reflection.
As you proceed through the modules, you will learn more about the roles, responsibilities and practices that support the NCCD and the education of students with disability in your school.

Why is this course relevant to me?
This course is relevant to all school leaders, regardless of school type or location. It acknowledges that school leaders work in a variety of contexts including mainstream schools, special schools, primary schools, secondary schools, rural schools, urban schools, and a range of other school profiles.
These varied school contexts require different leadership styles. School leaders can utilise and contextualise the content in this course to support the specific strengths and needs of their school and their own leadership style.
This course will enhance your knowledge about and skills to perform your roles and responsibilities in implementing the NCCD. It will encourage you and your school to engage fully and collaboratively in the process.
By completing this course, you will:
- identify the key features of the NCCD that are fundamental for school leadership, including establishing teams and building understanding of the school’s legislative obligations
- review the role of the school leader in planning effectively for the NCCD and facilitating collaborative engagement among all stakeholders
- learn about various practices you can use to successfully implement the NCCD, including good practices for moderation and validation
- reflect on your roles in facilitating the NCCD, develop an action plan to build on existing practices and processes, and evaluate and enhance your school’s implementation of the NCCD.
This course addressed professional standard descriptors for Lead teachers 6.4 and 7.4 and supports professional practice elements 2, 3 and 5 for school leaders and principals.
