Discuss and establish processes including moderation processes
In the course of the NCCD, schools collect data about students with disability who are receiving adjustments. It is highly recommended that schools, sectors and/or jurisdictions develop protocols and processes for:
- how evidence of these adjustments is recorded and stored
- moderation in relation to determining levels of adjustment.
Recording and storing evidence of adjustments
In the NCCD planning phase, review or establish processes for recording and storing evidence of adjustments. Record management forms part of each school’s accountability. Record and maintain evidence of teacher and school team activities associated with each of the four key elements of personalised learning and support in accordance with school, sector and/or jurisdiction policy and practice requirements. Sound supervisory practices and consistency throughout the year will ensure that evidence is readily accessible and can be drawn on to complete the data collection process and the principal’s verification of the school’s data for the NCCD.
Processes for moderation in relation to levels of adjustment
In the planning phase, review or set up processes for moderation in relation to determining levels of adjustment.
The key activities in the NCCD moderation process are:
- Establish a moderation team.
- Select sample students from each adjustment level for moderation.
- Summarise student information.
- Independently examine student cases.
- Moderators compare judgements.
- Reach consensus.
- Complete NCCD process.
